EVENT: Whitehaven Festival, June 2010

The Whitehaven Festival is the PREMIER event in the North of England - and it is free.
Friday 25th June, to Sunday 27th June. Please check out our accommodation page.

What can you expect to see over the three day event?
The three day event will be fun, fun, fun - there will be a fun fair, tall ships, aerial displays and a vererans parade, celebrating the 65th anniversary of the end of the second world war.

The Whitehaven Festival will have THREE big ticketed concerts on the harbourside. The acts will appear on a huge orbital stage. A tiered, seated arena will feature - it will be a impressive feature in itself! The music arena will also be an ‘unsigned’ stage before the main acts, giving bands a chance to share the stage with top names.

Cooking demonstrations will take place entirely on the harbour, while there other plans being developed for St Nicholas’ Gardens. Tall ships will feature at the festival, such as Jean de la Lune. It is described as a floating luxury mini hotel and there are hopes people may be able to go out on mini day sails. There will also be berths available to sail to and from Whitehaven over the weekend.

All the usual attractions will also feature including Made in Cumbria, the continental market, side stalls, street entertainment and a fairground. Organisers are toying with a number of new ideas such as mini-powerboat racing and a water ski display team in the outer harbour. A water ski display team from Florida might also feature!

The Sunday will be dedicated to marking national Armed Forces Day. There are hopes to create a military village and that the RAF will support with some aerial displays to accompany the veterans’ parade through the town. The Royal Navy has also promised support for the day. As many local veterans as possible are invited to take part. To register email gerard@thefestival.org.uk or pop into Richardson’s wine shop, in Lowther Street, Whitehaven.
